Energize Your Research

Gain access to non-destructive, high resolution X-ray based imaging

What we can provide:

  • Non-destructive high resolution imaging for structural and compositional information.

  • 2D and 3D image datasets in many formats.

  • 2D and 3D quantitative metrics for solid structures and pore spaces.

  • Instrument and software training.

Available Instruments

The X-ray Imaging Facility has equipment housed in Knight Campus and at Bowerman Sports Science Center:

Zeiss Xradia 620 Versa

Zeiss’s powerful X-ray microscope system with state-of-the-art X-ray source technology combines geometric and optical magnification to provide both high contrast resolution and high spatial resolution. Widefield mode allows ~14cm+ diameter field of view. 30-160kV energy range. 500nm spatial resolution / sub-micron voxel sizes achievable, depending on sample geometry.

Scanco vivaCT80

Scanco Medical’s flagship cone-beam microCT scanner for longitudinal in vivo preclinical studies. 80mm maximum field of view diameter, 45-70kVp energy range, 3.9-160um nominal voxel sizes.

Faxitron UltraFocus & MultiFocus

Hologic’s line of preclinical radiography systems allows users to rapidly acquire high magnification projection X-rays longitudinally during in vivo studies. 10-100kV energy range. 10x15cm scan area. We have two units – an UltraFocus and a MultiFocus.

Scanco XtremeCTII

Scanco Medical’s 2nd generation high resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) scanner typically used in clinical research projects to quantify 3D bone quality metrics. Maximum scan diameter 140mm. 30-273um nominal voxel sizes.

The Facility would like to acknowledge that all scans that are performed on the Zeiss Xradia 620 Versa are made possible through system acquisition funding support from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust (Grant # SR-201812008).
